What is Proof of service?

Proof of service is the verifiable evidence a security company gives its client showing that contracted coverage was actually delivered: who was on post, when, where, and what they did.

Also called: service verification, guard accountability.

What counts as proof of service?

A signed timesheet is an assertion, not proof. Proof is evidence that would be hard to produce if the work had not happened:

  • Clock-in and clock-out records carrying GPS coordinates
  • A photo of the guard taken at clock-in
  • Checkpoint scans across the shift showing the route was walked
  • Timestamped DAR entries written during the shift, not after it
  • Incident reports with photos, filed at the time

Why does proof of service affect contract renewals?

Security is bought on trust and renewed on evidence. When a client cannot see what they are paying for, price becomes the only differentiator and the contract goes to whoever is cheapest. A company that can produce a complete record for any date range is competing on something the low bidder usually cannot match.

It also settles disputes quickly. Most client complaints about coverage are resolved the moment somebody produces the actual record, and unresolved disputes, not incidents, are what tend to end contracts.
